Frequently asked questions

Before you leave

Do I need a visa?
Yes. You apply online on the official Sri Lankan government site, and the answer comes back by email very quickly. Apply about a month before you leave: should you mistype something, you will have time to put it right.
Which flight from Europe?
I recommend SriLankan Airlines, direct from Paris–Charles de Gaulle to Colombo: around ten hours in the air.
How far is it from the airport?
Two hours and a quarter between Colombo and La Maison VEDA. I can arrange the transfer, both ways.
Is Sri Lanka safe?
Yes, very. The country is markedly calmer than India, and I live there most of the year.
When is the good season?
November to April on our coast, in the south of the island.
Are vaccinations required?
No vaccination is required to enter Sri Lanka from Europe. A yellow fever certificate is only required of travellers arriving from a country where the disease circulates, or who have transited more than twelve hours through one — there is no yellow fever in Sri Lanka. For everything else, ask your doctor or a travel health clinic.

Life on site

What are the meals like?
Vegetarian, Ayurvedic, and entirely gluten-free — I insist on that, being intolerant myself.
Can I drink the tap water?
No. Drinking water is provided on site, there is nothing for you to buy.
Is there wifi?
Yes, and it works very well.
Is the room cleaned?
Every day. Bed linen and bath towels are changed every five days.
Are there many mosquitoes?
There are, but the window is short: a quarter of an hour at nightfall. After that you forget them.
How do I handle money?
Changing money is easy, but withdrawing rupees on site is simpler still.
What language is spoken?
Sinhala and Tamil. We welcome you in French and English.
Are you there during the stay?
I am on site from October to May.
Can I do laundry?
Yes, laundry can be done at La Maison VEDA.

The practice

Do I need previous yoga experience?
No. Kundalini classes adapt to everyone: you can slow down, pause, come back. Finding your own limit is yours to do, and nobody will push you past it.
Can I come on my own?
Very easily, and many do. Participants are most often women between thirty and sixty.
What should I bring?
Nothing for the practice: mats, blocks and bolsters are waiting for you on the shala.
Do I have to attend everything?
No. You will be invited to every class and every workshop, but you remain free to come and go, inside the retreat as outside it.
Is the shala private?
Yes, it is reserved for the group for the whole retreat.

Ayubowan, welcome
